Getting Aged Care Support in Campbelltown: Help That Respects Your Culture and Language
As we age, staying safe, healthy, and independent at home becomes more important, but navigating the aged care system can be overwhelming. It’s even harder if English isn’t your first language, or if you’re not familiar with government systems.
In Campbelltown and across the Macarthur Region, many older people come from multicultural backgrounds. They may speak a language other than English, follow cultural traditions, or need services that involve family in decision-making. That's why it’s so important that aged care support is not only easy to access but also respectful of your culture, beliefs, and communication preferences.
FOCUS Connect: Your Local, Inclusive Aged Care Provider
FOCUS Connect helps older people and families understand their options, apply for services, and receive care that is comfortable, personalised, and culturally inclusive.
We support multicultural seniors across Campbelltown and South West Sydney to access aged care under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) and the Support at Home Program, two government-funded services designed to help older Australians live independently.
What Is My Aged Care?
My Aged Care is the Australian Government’s main system for accessing aged care services. It helps older people:
- Find out what services they're eligible for
- Complete assessments
- Access support such as help at home, nursing, transport, meals, or residential care
My Aged Care is free to use, but the process can be confusing, especially for those who don’t speak English or feel unsure about online forms and government processes.
That’s where FOCUS Connect makes a difference.
Why Inclusive Aged Care Matters
Australia is a proudly multicultural nation, and its ageing population reflects that. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare:
- Over one-third of
Australians aged 65+ were born overseas
- More than 25% of aged care recipients come from multicultural backgrounds
- In South West Sydney and the Macarthur region, many residents speak a language other than English at home. The most commonly spoken languages include Arabic, Hindi, Tagalog (Filipino), Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
Older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds may face barriers like:
- Difficulty understanding the system
- Limited English or trouble communicating with assessors
- Services that don’t reflect cultural, religious, or family preferences
- Not feeling heard or understood when seeking support
Inclusive aged care means more than just translating brochures; it means delivering care that respects your values, language, traditions, and beliefs.
How FOCUS Connect Supports Multicultural Seniors and Families
We are a multicultural, not-for-profit community organisation based in Campbelltown. We work across the Macarthur Region to provide hands-on support to older people and their families, from explaining the system to delivering home care services.
1. Help with Applications
We guide you step-by-step through the My Aged Care process from registering to understanding your options, to completing applications in your preferred language.

2. Support with Assessments
Our Registered Nurse (RN) can assist with aged care reassessments by conducting in-home clinical reviews and preparing health reports. This helps make sure your care needs are clearly understood and supported.
3. Language & Cultural Support
We offer bilingual support for seniors in Campbelltown and can arrange interpreters to help you communicate comfortably. Our team also respects cultural preferences around food, family involvement, gender, and spirituality, helping you feel at home in your care journey.
4. Direct Services & Ongoing Care
Once you're approved, we can:
- Deliver services directly to your home
- Help you use your funding
- Support you if you want to change providers
- Offer case management and advocacy as your needs change
We stay with you every step of the way to ensure your care is right for you.
What Aged Care Support Can I Get?

Eligibility is assessed through
My Aged Care and is based on your individual needs, not just your age.
